Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 6:30pm, in Rende (CS), DiffèrArt inaugurates “Della visione e dell’enigma” an exhibition dedicated to the work of Daria Petrilli, a promising, young Roman illustrator who has identified through digital techniques, his ideal form of art.
The exhibition, curated by Daniele Garritano, presents a large body of work from 2013 to 2016, the 15 illustrations with pronounced surreal notes, dreamlike atmospheres, combinations of human and animal elements, labyrinth-like structures and «a forest of symbols” in which the space-time awareness of perception opens itself to the absolute presence of images, outside of real time, as happens in dreams.
As with Freud’s Unheimlich, displacements and condensations, the analogic relations, enlargements and symmetries create a game of visual suggestion hinged on a dream-like syntax. Familiar elements become disturbing signs, kinship between the human and the animal marks a seductive relationship of proximity and distance in respect to the unfathomable abyss of self-consciousness.
The game of subversion of common rationality allows represented subjects – women, animals, women-animals – to interact with reality, as in the deck of cards invented in the 40s by André Breton and illustrated by the surrealist movement (Jeu de Marseille), to affirm the creative power of the unconscious and its most secret depths.
Prior to the closure of the exhibition, the catalog will be presented by curator, Daniele Garritano.
