It kicks off now, “La Casa dei Racconti” (The House of Tales) , the theater festival of the Spazio Teatro, now in its fifteenth edition. The acting company of Reggio Calabria, thanks to the artistic direction of Gaetano Tramontana, offers six performances until March of this year. There will be two performances of each piece, and as usual on Saturday at 21:00 and Sunday at 18:00 in the historic location on Via San Paolo .
It all begins on Saturday, January 9th and Sunday, January 10th with Giuseppe Mortelliti and his show ” 84 gradini ” (84 Steps), an intense monologue recounting the story of Fabrizio in his relentless race up the ladder of life, which earned its protagonist a special award at the “Off Rome Fringe Festival 2014” and the recognition, in the English version, for Best Solo Performance at the San Diego Fringe Festival 2015.
Also in January, on the 23rd and 24th, the acting company “Carichi sospesi” presents “Groppi d’amore nella scuraglia” by Tiziano Scarpa, directed by Marco Caldiron with Silvio Barberio. A tale in verses, in a language invented for a story of love and rebirth in a country submerged in waste. Silvio Barbiero, Best Actor Award at the Rome Fringe Festival 2014, will conduct the workshop entitled “Bestiario of dell’anima”, the 22nd to the 24th of January, on the writings of Tiziano Scarpa.
On February 6th and 7th returns a well-known piece of contemporary Calabrian theater. Manolo Muoio and Ernesto Orrico are back on stage with “Jennu Brigannu. Storie di briganti calabresi” by Vincenza Constantino. The grand story revisited in series of events and figures who have traveled the south of Italy, including testimonies, legends and rumors.
During the season of Spazio Teatro we find also two female leads. The writer Katia Colica offers on the 20th and 21st of February the new stage play (Città del Sole Edizioni, 2015) , “Un altro metro ancora,” staging arranged by their hosts, interpretation by Gaetano Tramontana. The true story of a young rebel, who fled the fascist army and led a group of displaced families along a minefield, saving their lives and taking the risk of being the first in line
During the 5th and 6th of March, we find the actress Renata Falcone in a new attempt between theater and document. “Quindicimila” is dedicated to the olive pickers in Calabria, with their stories of mistreatment, sufferance and courage during the difficult time of the trade- union struggles of the 1950s.
Finally the debut of three young actors training at the Spazio Teatro, “Amare dolci cose,” written and directed by Emanuele Modafferi, with Andrea Foti and Vanessa Schiavone. The story of a couple, in life and at work, showing on March 19th and 20th.
Contemporaneously with the shows in the festival, there will be the inauguration of “Linee d’Entrata-esposizioni fotografiche in parallelo,” a new cultural initiative in which for each theatrical performance there will be an exhibition of a photographer from Reggio Calabria. The first event will begin at 6pm Friday, January 8th, featuring Joan Catalan with “Mustrumu,” a photographic project dedicated to the fire that destroyed the Museum of Musical Instruments of Reggio Calabria
