From the 4th to the 10th of September in Cerisano, in the province of Cosenza, will be the 23rd edition of the Festival of Serre. “A safe bet” say the organizers, only a few months after the new administration took office, led by Mayor Lucio Di Gioia.”
During the event, the center of the small village on the outskirts of Cosenza, will host cultural and gastronomic itineraries, which will be followed by moments of entertainment with street artists. “Narrow streets and squares will become the beating heart of the whole event, and will become the stage and scene for the performances of the artists.” Cinema, Classic, Jazz and Theatre, as well as spaces dedicated to exhibitions, architecture, art, which will be organized in various rooms of Palazzo Sersale. Among these, the exhibition of unbuilt architecture “Segni, Sogni e Disegni (Signs, Dreams and Designs) sponsored by the Association of Architects of Cosenza, “a show that offers real places and ideas of imaginary cities, points of view which results open to new scenarios and innovations.”
Certainly the biggest wait is for the Jazz, which returns to a location created specifically in the main square of Cerisano. In fact, names of national and international importance and among the best examples on the Italian jazz scene, will be part of the rich program, from Enrico Rava, trumpet player of world fame, to Joy Garrison, New York vocalist and daughter of the legendary Jimmy Garrison, and Camille Bertault, the young Parisian singer with an expression of refined and lively jazz which will be accompanied by pianist Fady Farah.
Also expected is the presence of the talented Italian drummer Roberto Gatto, gritty and versatile musician who in Cerisano will honor the unforgettable Elvis Jones. There will also be the Gianluca Guidi Jazz Quintet, a composition with all due respect for the son of Jonny Dorelli, who will bring to the stage “To Frank,” a tribute to Frank Sinatra. The theater section will also host light comedies, many of which will be brought to the stage by Calabrian comedy companies. Protagonist of the last evening, Saturday the 10th, will be Katia Ricciarelli in “Recital,” a show dedicated to the great music hits such as Granada, Le Vie En Rose, Un Amore Così Grande, Funiculì Funiculà. Ricciarelli will be accompanied by tenor Francesco Pugliese Zingariello.
The “Classic,” however, will be divided into two styles, opera singing and the tango. The opera “Nina o sia la pazza per amore” by Giovanni Paisiello, this year marking the two hundredth anniversary of his death, will be featured in three evenings, Open audition, General Audition and Grand Final. The Argentine however, will find its rightful place in the show with Marco Gemelli and the Soloists of the Philharmonic, which in Sertango presents a unique representation of its kind, where the Tango meets Jazz. Room is also given to great cinema with the screening of successful films, most of them awarded Oscars in 2016. The arena on September 9th hosts a macrofilmcommission between Calabria and Basilicata in the presence of Paris Leporace, director of the Lucana Film Commission and Pino Citrigno, President of the Calabrian film Commission. Following the screening of three short films made with the help of #bandoallacrisi the Basilicata Region. Palazzo Sersale will be hosting the “Classic”and it will also be the place for art and culture. It is planned the presence of numerous exhibitors from across the province, who will present their works and their creations in the spaces of the magnificent structure. “The real star of this event will be Cerisano, its squares, its plazas. We can bet on its rebirth,” said mayor Di Gioia to Yes Calabria.
