The writer Giorgio Vasta and the rapper Hist are among the guests of this Reggio Calabria event
The above-mentioned festival is scheduled for Oct. 23, 24 and 25 at Park Ecolandia, a playground as well as technological and environmental-friendly facility in the outskirts of the city. With its astounding panoramic view on the surrounding landscape, Ecolandia is an innovative and resourceful location, a point of reference when it comes to the region’s environmental, scientific and cultural context.
On this occasion, theatre, art and music will mix together in the unique atmosphere of this former military citadel overlooking the Strait of Messina, making up a programme full of workshops, shows and performances for all kinds of audience and featuring national and regional artists.
One of the most anticipated events is the workshop on biographic writing that will be held by the writer Giorgio Vasta from Palermo. With his Il tempo materiale, he was one of the finalists at Premio Strega. He also is a screenwriter and frequent collaborator of newspapers such as “La Repubblica, “Il Venerdì, “Il sole 24 ore” and “Il Manifesto”. His Ecolandia workshop will focus on all the different literary techniques to narrate people’s lives (ranging from diaries to reflective writing to autobiographic novels).
With a Tai Chi workshop, Friday afternoon will be dedicated to health and well-being, whereas in the evening a contemporary theatre piece titled La morte addosso by Calabrian company Officine Jonike delle Arti will be on stage. Directed by Americo Melchionda, actresses Maria Milasi and Kristina Mravcova will portrait two unforgettable female characters, created by Domenico Loddo and Maria Milasi herself.
Saturday will be a celebration of street art and music. In an event called Street Art, ten widely acclaimed Italian artists will paint over the walls of a segment of Via Scopelliti, the street which connects the park to the highway. On the days of Saturday and Sunday Taiyo Yamanouchi, aka Hist, will hold a workshop on rap music metrics. After a contest of young rappers, this internationally renown freestyler and TV-personality will close the Saturday programme with a concert.
Sunday will be a day for children, with a puppet show organized by Il teatro delle rane– The Frogs’ Theatre. This cultural association, which have specialized in figurative theatre and puppetry over the past few years, will set up a puppets exhibition and hold a workshop on puppet construction during the three days of the festival. It will be titled Ballad of the four elements and revolve around the assembling of puppets with recycled old materials. The creations will have to represent the four elements – Fire, Earth, Air and Water – to which Park Ecolandia is dedicated.
The initiative will be closed by Katia Colica’s reading Sul Bordo della vita, with Antonio Aprile’s musical accompaniment. A mix of words and music, featuring several abstracts from Colica’s works, which will blend into an urban ballad giving voice to the ranks of the forgotten and social outcasts.
