Consensi e forti emozioni per il commovente romanzo “Il cacciatore di meduse”, scritto da Ruggero Pegna, da poco pubblicato dalla casa editrice Falco e presentato con successo in numerosi eventi letterari. Dopo la presentazione della versione in braille, quella al Premio Sele d’Oro di Oliveto Citra e numerose altre, anche Panorama.it gli ha dedicato la copertina dei 20 libri segnalati sul tema dell’immigrazione. Un racconto originalissimo ed emozionante che porta i lettori a immedesimarsi nell’ avventura di un piccolo migrante somalo che, con la mamma e un piccolo Pinocchio di legno nella borsa, affronta il deserto e il mare su un barcone di fortuna, approdando in Sicilia, “terra di bianchi”.
Mentre viviamo ogni giorno il dramma di migliaia di migranti, ecco l’incredibile storia di un bambino somalo e dei suoi amici migranti e miseri di tutto il mondo. Un racconto che, attraverso la loro voce, ci porta tra le sofferenze e i sogni di chi è misero o diverso, discriminato per il suo stato di povertà o per il colore della pelle.
Una storia che approda sulle coste siciliane, in riva al mare cristallino di Lampedusa e, poi, di San Vito Lo Capo, in provincia di Trapani, dove Tajil fissa la sua dimora su una panchina sotto le stelle.
In questo romanzo attualissimo e toccante, sorprendente fino all’inimmaginabile finale, c’è un pezzo di storia dei nostri tempi. Temi scottanti come razzismo, accoglienza, solidarietà, integrazione, diversità, fede, si mescolano in un romanzo mozzafiato.
Tra le onde, Tajil anela alla terraferma, con un guazzabuglio di desideri, speranze, sogni, trovandosi in situazioni incredibili che solo un bimbo, con la sua incoscienza e la sua innocenza, riesce a vivere come protagonista di una grande avventura, tra fiaba e realtà.
«Ognuno ha un motivo per scappare e mille altri per sperare», scrive Ruggero Pegna. La struggente storia di Tajil, un bambino nero che non sapeva di essere diverso perché nel suo villaggio a Chisimaio tutti avevano il suo stesso colore della pelle, offre l’unica soluzione possibile ai dilemmi di questi giorni, aprendo ai sentimenti, al rispetto degli altri e delle loro infinite diversità, usando la chiave della bontà e degli affetti.
L’autore, con uno stile fluido e lineare, un linguaggio espressivo intriso di estrema sensibilità e delicatezza, mostra due facce a guisa di una medaglia: da una parte,l’accoglienza e l’integrazione e, dall’altra, l’ostilità e la discriminazione culturale; un miraggio e un ostacolo quasi insormontabile che trovano, inaspettatamente, un punto di saldatura.
Il cacciatore di meduse emoziona. Come la musica del pianista che ascolta Tajil, è poesia, dolcezza, sensazioni e suoni di tasti, non a caso, bianchi e neri. Oltre l’immaginifico, è un messaggio fortissimo di elevato spessore etico, che scuote le coscienze dall’indifferenza e dal torpore di un’omologazione nei giudizi espressi sugli altri, sovente appannaggio di diversa cultura e civiltà. La narrazione cattura il lettore, incanta, anche grazie a descrizioni di una natura aspra ma meravigliosa, lo trasporta in un’atmosfera di vibrante umanità e alterità con l’identificazione e la proiezione nel personaggio principale, di cui condivide amarezze e delusioni, ma anche speranze, attese e desideri.
«Io sono un bambino nero. Non so perché il mio colore è questo, ma sono contento lo stesso, perché somiglio a mamma, al nonno e a tutti quelli di Chisimaio. Se ero bianco, mi sarei vergognato sicuramente di stare là. Ora che sono grande e sono qui, non mi importa nulla se qualcuno mi chiama negro. Sono vivo e felice. E questo è bellissimo… Durante il viaggio ho visto che, avvicinandoci all’Italia, la gente si scolorisce, fino a essere bianca del tutto quando si arriva qui. Non so il motivo e nessuno me lo sa dire. ».
Effetto inevitabile del testo letterario di Ruggero Pegna – romanziere attento e raffinato – è quello, infine, di un’autentica sferzata verso il superamento di pregiudizi e di steccati culturali, che mal si accordano con la temperie della convivenza civile e comunitaria a ogni latitudine.

This touching novel, which has a lot of surprises in store for readers from the incipit until the unimaginable ending, has a lot to say about contemporary history, as it embraces topical themes such as racism, immigrant reception, solidarity, integration, faith and cultural divide.
When he finds himself amidst the waves, Taijin craves the land and is prey to a stream of hopes and dreams, face to face with a myriad of incredible situation that his childish innocence and inexperience help him see as episodes of a big adventure, halfway between reality and a fairy tale, of which he is the protagonist.
«All of us have one reason to escape and thousands to keep hoping», writes Ruggero Pegna.The story of Tajil, a kid who didn’t know he was different because everybody in Chisimaio, his village, had the same skin color as him, offers the only possible solution to today’s quandaries: namely, that we should warm up to the others and understand their feelings, respecting them and their diversity.
By means of a fluent and linear style and of a poetic language whose main features are its delicacy and expressiveness, the author stands before his chosen topic as if it were a medal, whose two faces he aims to show to readers: on the one side, good reception and integration, on the other hostility and cultural discrimination; hence a couple of opposites, a mirage and an almost insurmountable obstacle, a duality which will be overcome thanks to an unexpected meet-in-the-middle solution.
“The jellyfish catcher” calls for real emotions, just like the music played by a pianist in the book, the sounds produced by the appropriately black and white keys of the instrument, sounds that are full of poetry and sweetness. The novel has a strong message, charged with a significant ethical value, which is likely to shake the readers’ consciences and show them the bleakness of passing judgment on the others because of their belonging to a different culture or form of civilization. The narrative enraptures its readers, fascinating them with the descriptions of a natural environment that is beautiful and difficult at the same time, conveying an atmosphere of vibrant humanity and leading them to identify with the main character and share his bitterness and disappointments, as well as his hopes and desires.
«I am a black kid. I don’t know why, but such is my color and I am happy with it, because it makes me look like mom, grandpa and all the people of Chisimaio. If I were white, I would have felt ashamed of living there. Now that I’ve grown up and I’m here, I don’t care if they call me a nigger. I am alive and I’m happy, and this is beautiful. During the journey I noticed that people grew lighter as we came nearer to Italy, and they are almost completely white now that we’re here. I don’t know the reason, and no-one would tell it to me. ».
One of the effects of reading Ruggero Pegna – a sophisticated, attentive novelist – is the sensation of being drawn to overcome those prejudices and cultural barriers that even today prevent the diffusion of the civil coexistence of different cultures.
