grangala-figlilunaIf you were to put a face on resilience, on the ability to cope in a positive way to traumatic events and positively reorganize their lives in the face of difficulty, we would surely look to Giusy Versace, a symbol of the type of willpower capable of breaking through the barriers of disability, Paralympic athletic records, and the first Italian woman ever to run with a double amputation of the lower limbs.  She is the exceptional godmother of GRAN GALA ‘ DANCE scheduled for next Friday, January 13, 2017 at 8pm, at the Palaeventi, via G. Candiano in the city of Rossano.

The solidarity and awareness event, sponsored by the Social Cooperative CHILDREN OF THE MOON and sponsored by Costa Cruises, is open to the dance schools in the area. Registration is open.

Who is Giusy Versace? Born in Reggio Calabria May 20, 1977 she lived in the city of the Strait until the age 18.  Then, work and life led her first to London and then to Milan. On August 22, 2005, during one of many business trips, Giusy was involved in a terrible automobile accident on the highway A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria, in which she lost both of her legs.  An event that left everything at stake for her but, for a character like hers, never carried the meaning of surrender. After more than a year and a half of physical therapy, Giusy was able to walk and returned to work.  In 2007 she was able to drive and in 2010 she began racing with carbon prosthesis. After only three months she was already in the starting blocks of the Italian Athletics Championships. Thus becoming the first Italian athlete in history to run with bilateral amputation in the category T43. In the next five years Giusy collects 11 Italian titles, a European record in 2012 and several national records in the 60, 100 and 200 meter runs. In September 2014 she joined the cast of competitors of the tenth edition of the TV show Dancing with the Stars, broadcast on Rai 1 and wins the competition paired with the actor and dancer, Raimondo Todaro.
